Before co-founding Volant Autonomy with his academic colleagues from the University of Bath, Anthony had enjoyed an 11-year career in the Royal Air Force as a pilot and flying instructor. He then spent a further 27 years, with British Airways, latterly as a captain on the Boeing 777. He completed his PhD at Cranfield University where he also lectured and gave presentations on issues of human performance, legal liability and organisational culture. Between 2015 and 2020 he developed and conducted specialised training programmes with UK Sport for the elite coaches of the GB Olympic teams. As well as business and industry leaders, his other consulting clients included head coaches and performance directors in the FA, the RFU, English & Welsh Cricket, the LTA and British Swimming. He was the lead author of the Seventh Edition of Commercial Aviation Safety published in 2023. As Chief Operations Officer, he brings his extensive aviation experience to the development of Volant’s world leading, safety-critical planning and flight guidance software.
