City Aviation, City of Helsinki
Christina Suomi is Project Director of City Aviation at the City of Helsinki and represents the strategic spatial planning level of the city, where multiple urban systems and interests are integrated and aligned. As a senior city official, she has been the initiator and driving force behind Helsinki’s City Aviation approach, bringing aviation into the core of urban planning and regional, metropolitan and city-level decision-making. Her work is carried out in close collaboration with City of Helsinki’s Senior Aviation Specialist Mr Jukka Keski-Jaskari (ret. FiAF, mil IP, ATCO, ATM mil /civ), combining strategic city planning with deep aviation expertise to enable coherent and scalable solutions.
Helsinki has developed a city-scale digital twin and U-space prototype to simulate and operationalise aviation within a real urban environment, enabling evidence-based planning and decision-making. Christina brings a practical, city-led perspective to European aviation discussions, and actively advocates for stronger city ownership and responsibility in shaping low-altitude airspace and its integration into urban environments.
She has previously served as a Management Committee member and Vice President of METREX – The Network of European Metropolitan Regions and Areas, contributing to strategic metropolitan development across Europe. Coming from a four-generation aviation background spanning both military and civil aviation, she also maintains a personal connection to the field as a recreational drone pilot.
