Biography
In late 2023, I was running the commercial real estate company my grandfather started, feeling restless despite our success. My leadership coach sensed this and challenged me to call seven trusted advisors with one question: "What could we do if nothing was holding us back?"
One of those calls changed everything.
Brad Ahrens, CCIM and I discovered we shared the same holy restlessness and a vision for using commercial real estate to create market-rate returns while advancing God's kingdom. That conversation birthed HearthStone Capital.
What makes HearthStone different:
- Faith-based fund-of-funds investing in top-tier sponsors who share our values
- We negotiate co-GP positions, giving us real influence and oversight to protect investors
- Our GP promote flows back to the fund—investors often earn more with us than going direct
- We tithe our management profits alongside our sponsors, demonstrating kingdom stewardship without affecting investor returns
- We invest our own capital alongside our investors—we eat our own cooking for true alignment
- We partner with sponsors who actively serve tenants and communities for Christ
- We measure kingdom impact: prayer time, spiritual conversations, community building, conversions
My story:
- 38 years walking with Christ—chairman of eldership at 3,000-person church
- 20+ years teaching Sunday school, leading small groups, discipling men
- 20+ years in commercial real estate
- Third-generation leader at Barron Commercial Group (397% revenue growth)
- Co-host "Commercially Speaking" podcast
- CCIM Senior Instructor (market analysis, AI applications in CRE)
Our vision for 2030: People coming to Jesus on every continent through HearthStone investments.
Kingdom investing in action:
One multifamily deal serves legal refugees—local churches provide ESL classes, job training, and friendship. Tenant turnover is 40% below market because people experience Christ's love in practical ways.
Another sponsor takes 20% of profits to fund missionaries worldwide.
A third uses on-site staff for prayer walks, Bible studies, and community building.
Core truths I teach:
- God cares deeply about people AND places
- Excellence in business is an act worship (Colossians 3:23)
- Business might be the most effective evangelism tool we have
- We're stewards, not owners, of God's resources (Psalm 24:1)
- The earth is the Lord's—our job is to manage it for His glory and people's good
