Marlen Mouliou is Assistant Professor of Museology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). She coordinates the CIVIS Alliance Open Labs at NKUA and oversees public archaeology activities at the university excavations in Plasi, Marathon. A Fulbright Fellow (2023), her research centres on museum interpretation and the social role of museums. Between 2023 and 2026, she participated in a national research project on the arts and mental health as a member of the Art on Prescription Research Committee of the University Research Institute of Mental Health, Neurosciences & Precision Medicine “Kostas Stefanis” (UMHRI).

Previously, Mouliou spent 16 years as an archaeologist-museologist for the Hellenic Ministry of Culture. She has held leadership roles in major heritage organisations, including Chair of the European Museum of the Year Awards jury, Chair of CAMOC-ICOM, and Vice-Chair of the European Academic Heritage Network (UNIVERSEUM). She is also a member of the CoMuseum International Advisory Committee and has participated in and led numerous museum and exhibition projects.

In 2020, she founded the participatory initiative “The Museum Inside Me” to promote the public value of culture. She co-edited the Routledge publication Revisiting Museums of Influence: Four Decades of Innovation and Public Quality in European Museums (2021). Mouliou holds both an MA and a PhD in Museology from the University of Leicester, together with a degree in Archaeology and History of Art from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
