The Phoenician diaspora of the late 9th century BC implied a sudden migration that reached several Mediterranean regions and Southwestern Iberia. From that moment, Phoenicia settlements such as Teatro Comico (ancient Gadir), other sites in nowadays Cádiz and Castillo de Doña Blanca (El Puerto de Santa María) are attested in the bay of Cadiz. This migration implied the arrival of a substantial amount of Phoenician population in areas inhabited by local peoples. Thus, the aim of this paper is to analyse if there is evidence of conflict and warfare in this region, the material evidence of hybridization, well attested in the pottery (Grey ware pottery), the expression of the identities of migrating and local populations (well attested in the mortuary practices and the urbanism), the technological impact (adoption of the potter’s wheel) and the economic impact of Phoenician mobility (attested in the introduction of new crops such as vine and olive tree).
