Matthew Smitley DAT, LAT, ATC, SFMA

Dr. Matthew Smitley is an Assistant Professor and core faculty member in the Athletic Training Program at the University of Kentucky, where he teaches courses in injury evaluation, rehabilitation, emergent injury management, and general medical conditions. He currently serves as Chair of the NATA Career Advancement Committee.
Before joining UK, Dr. Smitley served as Program Director for both the Master of Science and Doctor of Athletic Training programs at the University of Idaho. His clinical practice has spanned diverse populations and athletic levels, shaping his approach to clinical practice and teaching.
His research interests include novel manual therapy interventions and the factors influencing professional satisfaction, recruitment, and retention within athletic training. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, watching college football, and TRYING to keep up with his two boys under three.
