2026-08-27 | 09:00 - 09:15
Khramis Didi Gora is an important Late Neolithic archaeological site in the Southern Caucasus, where a wide range of stone tools reflects diverse aspects of economic activities. This poster focuses on the study of sickle inserts recovered from the site and aims to reconstruct their “life cycle,” from raw material selection to final use.
The technological study of the sickle inserts shows that the assemblage includes Shomutepe-type inserts, characterized by specific manufacturing traits and relatively stable forms. The treatment of the working edges and overall morphological features indicates a purposeful production process. Traceological analysis revealed use-wear traces related to the processing of plant materials, as well as residues of adhesive substances. These data confirm the intensive use of sickle inserts in agricultural activities.
The quantitative distribution of the sickle inserts and the observed use-wear patterns highlight their significant functional role within the economic system of the site. The results contribute to a better understanding of Late Neolithic agricultural practices in the Southern Caucasus.
