The Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) is a leading organization in the US energy sector. They host three major annual events: AEE East, AEE West, and the large-scale AEE World conference. These events feature technical sessions, keynotes, and networking opportunities for professionals in the energy industry.

Client project objectives:

  • Streamlined agendas: Create intuitive agenda systems that manage multiple concurrent technical sessions and tracks, without overwhelming users.
  • Enhanced user experience: Implement features that allow attendees to bookmark individual sessions within tracks and build personalized schedules.

Customized solutions and features developed:

  • Event-specific apps:
    • Dedicated apps for each event: We designed separate, tailored apps for AEE East, AEE West, and AEE World, ensuring that each event had its own platform to meet its unique requirements.
    • Consistent user experience: Despite the individual customizations, we maintained a consistent look and feel across all three apps, ensuring a familiar experience for returning attendees.
  • Advanced agenda management:
    • Nested agendas: We developed a robust nested agenda system capable of managing complex scheduling using deep linking. For example, AEE World featured 13 tracks, each with multiple mini-sessions. The app allowed attendees to easily navigate from main sessions to individual tracks and mini-sessions.
    • Track and session bookmarking: Attendees could bookmark individual mini-sessions, creating personalized schedules that reflected their specific interests without including full tracks they didn’t need.
  • Streamlined API integration:
    • Real-time data synchronization: We worked closely with AEE’s web development team to integrate API solutions, ensuring real-time updates and accurate session information within the apps.
    • Backend issue resolution: By addressing backend issues such as duplicate speaker entries, we ensured smooth, error-free data transfer, working in close collaboration with AEE’s team.
  • Comprehensive event features:
    • All-in-one event information: Each app included messaging, schedules, speakers, exhibitors, and sponsor information, ensuring that attendees had all essential event details at their fingertips.
    • Personalized schedules: Attendees could easily add individual sessions to their schedules, simplifying their event experience and allowing them to manage and attend sessions that aligned with their interests.

User testing and feedback:

  • Testing phase: We provided AEE with a test version of the app to evaluate functionality and user experience before launch. Their feedback was incorporated, helping refine the apps and ensuring the final versions fully met AEE’s needs.
